Program Overview The Young Indigenous Leaders Pathways Program is a practical, strengths-based program designed to support young Indigenous people stepping into work, leadership, or community roles. The program focuses on building confidence, communication, money skills, job readiness, and future planning, while recognising the importance of family, culture, and community responsibilities. It is delivered in a culturally safe, conversational, and hands-on way, using real-life examples, group discussion, and practical activities rather than classroom-style teaching. Target Group This program is suitable for young Indigenous people aged approximately 16–30 years, including emerging leaders, youth mentors, and those transitioning into work, training, or leadership roles. The program is appropriate for participants with low to moderate literacy and can be adapted to suit local context and language. Program Objectives The program aims to: Build confident and respectful communication Improve understanding of workplace expectations Develop basic banking, saving, and money skills Support balance between work, family, and cultural responsibilities Build job readiness and goal-setting skills Program Structure Key learning areas include: Communication and respectful relationships Workplace expectations and reliability Money, banking, and saving basics Balancing family, culture, and work Identifying job pathways and strengths Applying for jobs and interview preparation Goal setting and future planning Delivery Approach The program uses: Group discussions and yarns Practical activities and role-play Real-life scenarios Visual, low-literacy resources Culturally respectful facilitation Delivery can occur in communities, schools, youth centres, or on-Country settings. Duration & Format The program can be delivered as a short intensive (2–5 days), a weekly program over several weeks, or as standalone modules tailored to community needs. Outcomes Participants will finish the program with increased confidence, clearer communication skills, basic money knowledge, improved job readiness, and clearer goals for their future. Funding & Customisation The program aligns with youth leadership, employment readiness, and Indigenous capacity-building initiatives. Content can be customised to suit local community needs, age groups, industries, and cultural contexts.
